CRUISING GROUNDS
The tours take place in the American and British Virgin Islands (also called USVI and BVI, repectively).

Click here for a “dynamic map” of the area.

We sail out from Charlotte Amalie in St.Thomas, capital of the USVI.

Columbus sailed in this area during his second expedition to the West Indies in 1493. He gave the islands their names depending on how he “saw” them. For example, Virgin Gorda, which means fat virgin. The name comes from the islands hills, which from a certain angle looks like a fat lady lying on her back.

The name Tortola, one of the largest islands in the BVI, comes from the abundance of turtles in the area. (Tortuga is the Spanish word for turtle).

Salt Island, Copper Island, and Ginger Island are other islands which got their names later. You will see and discover why, when we sail there. Over the years, the islands have been under Spain, Portugal, Holland, France, and England. Denmark owned St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix from 1666 to 1898. The Americans bought the islands for 25 million dollars.
