Sailing tours in the Caribbean

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

CLOTHING AND BAGGAGE
It is normally warm in the Caribbean. The average temperature is from 28 - 30°C in the day time, a bit cooler in the evening (20 -22°C).
You should have some clothes in your handcarry, in case of delays or missing checked in luggage.
Remember to pack in a bag, not a suitcase, as we do not have storage space for suitcases on the boat.

YOU WILL NEED:
3 swimsuits/bikini for bathing and sunning. Pack these in your carry-on.
3 shorts, 4 light shirts/blouses, 2 T-shirts, underwear.
Towels (a bath towel and 2 small towels)
Toilet articles, medicines, etc.
A thin sailing or wind jacket and a pullover. (You can travel in this)
1 long pants – jeans type, boat shoes with light colored soles.
A casual but presentable outfit for restaurant visits.
Sun cream/lotion with high factor (if you have some from before). Otherwise, you can also buy them everywhere in St. Thomas.
A cap or hat to protect you against the strong sun.
Sunglasses. An old shirt for swimming during the first few days. The sun is strong.
Sleep wear or jogging suit.
Small clothing items can be washed in a pail on the boat.
Laundrymats can be found in the big islands.

BEDLINEN AND TOWELS
You will be provided with bed linen.
You have to bring your own towels.
In addition, some like to take a beach towel and washcloth with them.

ACCOMODATION
You will get a bed in a doubleroom. If you are travelling alone, you will have to share a room with another person.
2 cabins share a toilet/bath. Most of the time, we will shower in the aft platform, after swimming. But there are also inside showers.

FOOD
We will shop and share food. As in all charter boats, the captain is entitled to free food onboard.
The participants will decide together what they wish to buy and how often they will be eating out.
From earlier experience, $150 has been contributed to the common fund for food, gasoil and water. One of the participants will also be responsible for the money.
Eveybody will take turns in preparing the food onboard.

CURRENCY
US dollar is used everywhere.
You can also use your credit card, but we recommend that you take with you some US$ notes for small purchases, to use in the smaller islands and when eating out together.

TELEPHONE
You will need a 3-band cellphone to be able to ring and receive calls from Europe. This will work in the American Virgin Islands but only some parts of the BVI. It is reasonable to call from a pay phone from St. Thomas and St. John, but more expensive in the BVI.
You will be able to receive text messages on your cellphone. However, you will not be able to recover voice messages while in the US and BVI. It might be wise to let friends and family know about this before you leave.
Internet cafés can be found in the big islands.

OTHERS
We have 1 fishing rod on each boat, some dive masks, snorkels and swimming fins for common use. You can take your own with you, if you prefer.
